https://doriskolpa.com/about Fri, 24 Sep 2021 13:56:50 +0000 Doris Kolpa https://doriskolpa.com/about The paintings explore the place of the natural world within the urban landscape. I interweave artificial and organic elements: grass sprouting between the paving tiles, a woman being stared at by car headlights. This interweaving symbolises a struggle between oppression and freedom of the feminine, the natural and the mythical. I use the landscape as a vessel for memory, imagination, stories and inner experience. I apply the oil paint in various layers and then wipe it out until form and colour blend into each other. This gives the landscape a dreamlike haze, transforming it into a space where reality and myth merge. My works refer to my immediate surroundings, such as the abandoned patches of no man’s land in city’s. I find them behind railway tracks, under viaducts or where once was a building. I use these in between spaces as a metaphor to question how we relate to land, nature and wildness. These I contrast with feminine responses, which I seek in ecofeminism, witchcraft myths and modern rituals. ©Luuk Sterk Painter based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands Instagram/doriskolpa doriskolpa@hotmail.com +31 621 593 448Solo exhibitionStrangled Mermaids, The Crooked Studio, Rotterdam (2025) Yearning for the Great Bear, Time is the New Space Rotterdam (2025) Where the Pavement Ends, Allard Wildenberg Art Projects Naarden (2023) When the Curtain Falls, Culturehub Rotterdam (2021) Group exhibitions To Be, Jarmuschek + Partner Berlin (2026) Prospects & Concepts, Art Rotterdam Ahoy (2026) The Other, Westerkadekunst Rotterdam (2026) Boxxx Art Collective Amsterdam (2025) Dutch Design Week, Make Eindhoven (2025) Mythic Manifest Love Waxes Cold London (2025) Zomersalon Westerkadekunst Rotterdam(2025) Wild Summer of Art Brutus Rotterdam (2025) This Art Fair Door Amsterdam (2025) Zomersalon Westerkade kunst Rotterdam (2024) Klassiek meets Kunst, Tivoli Vredeburg Utrecht (2024) Pijnlijk Mooi, Zamen Amsterdam (2024)Luxe Benen, Marian Cramer Amsterdam (2024) Festival exhibition, Palet Amsterdam (2023) Ubuntu, de Zolder & Mono Rotterdam (2023) Zomersalon Westerkade kunst Rotterdam (2023) When Grey turns Purple, performance, Skek Amsterdam (2023) Salon de Cultrue, performance, kunstkerk Dordrecht (2023) Crisiskunst, groupshow, Gallery Niffo Rotterdam (2022) Figure it out, curating Pictura Dordrecht (2022) Kersvers, spoken word, vurige tongen, Ruigoord Amsterdam (2022)Mother(land), groupshow, Z33 Hasselt (2022)Kersvers, performance night, Door Dordecht (2021) When the curtain falls, solo show, Culturehub Rotterdam (2021)Kersvers, groupshow, Pictura Dordrecht (2021) The Nowshow, groupshow, St. Joost academy Breda (2021) Window exhibition, Showroom MAMA, Rotterdam (2021 Moment of trust, groupshow, Club Solo Breda (2020) Education Bachelor Art & Research, St Joost school for Arts and Design Breda (2017-2021) Minor Philosophy, Religion and Spirituality, HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht
